A 25-year-old woman, identified as Sahara Dula, has been sentenced to two years in prison after admitting to purposely driving her vehicle into a New York Police Department (NYPD) officer because she wanted to “teach him a lesson.”
According to court records, Dula deliberately struck Officer Ruchiran Dias during a traffic encounter after becoming frustrated that he “wouldn’t move.”
“I told the cop I wanted to go straight, and he wouldn’t move, so I hit him. I did it on purpose,” Dula told investigators. She reportedly shouted profanities during her arrest, saying, “F*** these cops! He wouldn’t move! F*** these cops, it’s a lesson to him, and hopefully he doesn’t want to be a cop anymore.”
Despite the serious nature of the attack — which prosecutors said could have easily resulted in the officer’s death — Manhattan Supreme Court Judge Melissa T. Lewis sentenced Dula to just two years in prison.
“This sentence is not nearly enough,” said Police Benevolent Association President Patrick Hendry. “This individual tried to run down a New York City police officer. She could have killed him.”
Officer Dias survived the incident but sustained injuries from the impact. The NYPD has not commented further on the sentencing outcome.
