Texas Governor Greg Abbott is openly criticizing Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-TX) as reports circulate that she is considering a run for the U.S. Senate. During remarks on the potential campaign, Abbott said Crockett would be “pummeled” in a statewide race, arguing that her political positions are far out of step with the majority of Texans.
Abbott said Texas history is filled with “blowhards” who underestimated what it takes to win a statewide election, suggesting Crockett would face the same fate. He added that Texans beyond her district “are very different from her base and her values,” predicting that her “progressive socialist agenda” would be overwhelmingly rejected by voters.
The governor also said he expects the Republican nominee to “crush” her in a general election and expressed confidence that the state will keep the Senate seat red. Abbott even joked that after her defeat, Crockett might “end up with a job on The View.”
Crockett has not formally announced a Senate bid, but her recent comments about reviewing polling data suggest she may make a decision soon.
