A 21-year-old man, Dalton Lee Janiczek, has been arrested and charged with attempted murder after allegedly ramming his Mercedes G-Wagon into multiple police officers during a traffic stop in Pennsylvania.
According to the District Attorney’s Office, officers initially pulled Janiczek over for a routine traffic violation. However, the situation escalated quickly when Janiczek allegedly accelerated his vehicle directly toward one of the officers, forcing the officer to open fire in self-defense.
“Janiczek accelerated directly at the officer, attempting to hit him, and the officer discharged his firearm,” the DA’s statement read.
Authorities said that even after the officer fell to the ground, Janiczek continued his assault.
“Again, Janiczek accelerated the vehicle, this time striking the officer, causing him to fall,” prosecutors said. “As the officer attempted to administer a tourniquet to a leg wound, the Mercedes circled back around the lot and struck the officer three more times as he laid on the ground.”
Multiple officers were transported to a nearby hospital for treatment and are currently listed in stable condition.
Janiczek, who is the son of a prominent Pennsylvania lawyer, is now facing multiple felony charges, including attempted murder of a law enforcement officer, aggravated assault, and reckless endangerment.
The investigation remains ongoing as officials review dashcam and surveillance footage from the scene.
